Blackjack is a game played against the dealer and not against other players. Blackjack tables have different limits, so you must first decide on which limits would be more suitable based on you bankroll. One you have launched the table, you can then proceed to place your bet. The casino chips will appear in several different denominations and usually the minimum bet on a blackjack table is AU$1.00

After placing your bet, you and the dealer will both be dealt to cards. Each card is worth its face value in points. An ace is worth either 1 or 11 and a King, Queen and Jack are all worth 10 points. The best possible hand to be dealt is called a natural 21 and would be achieved instantly if you are dealt for example a black Jack and any ace (10 + 11 = 21). The only way you could fail to win with this hand is if the dealer is dealt the exact same type of hand, meaning the game would be tied.

If a game is tied, you will receive your stake back. This is also called a Push and you will neither win nor lose. As soon as you have been dealt those first two cards, you will then be given the opportunity to take another card (hit) or you can stand (not take any more). You will know what your next move should be based on the total of the first two cards.

The great thing about standard blackjack is that a basic strategy can be applied to the game which will marginally reduce the house edge. This involves sticking to a pattern based on what your first cards are and based on what the dealer is showing. In most blackjack games, the dealer has to stand on either 16 or 17, so always keep this in mind.

There are now additional side bets and insurance that you can take out on each hand. If the dealer is showing an ace, they will recommend that you take the insurance (at a small charge) so if the dealer wins with blackjack, you will still receive something in return. Our advice is to NOT take out insurance. This is just a waste of money. You are better of cutting your losses and moving on to the next hand.
